Connecting Remote Communities to Opportunities in Mandool, Nuristan
For decades, communities in Mandool district of Nuristan province remained isolated due to a lack of road access and basic infrastructure. Through the Community Resilience and Livelihood Project (CRLP), funded by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), DACAAR worked with local communities to improve connectivity, strengthen livelihoods, and enhance community resilience.
Implemented from July 2024 to November 2025, the project supported the construction of a 71.55-kilometre tertiary road, with an additional 19.77-kilometre section connecting Mandool to Paryan district of Panjshir province through community efforts. The project also provided food assistance to vulnerable families, supported women's livelihoods through poultry distribution, and delivered capacity-building training to strengthen community knowledge and resilience.
For the first time, vehicles reached Chapa Dara village, making it easier for residents to access healthcare, transport agricultural products, and connect with neighbouring communities. This initiative marked an important step towards a more connected and resilient future for the people of Mandool.
