In Sheikh Azam village of Sayed Abad district, Wardak province, limited access to safe water and sanitation had created serious challenges for the community. The village’s only water point had been non-functional for nearly four years, forcing families to collect water from distant sources, while open defecation increased health risks.

Through the Humanitarian WASH for Vulnerable, Remote, and Underserved Communities in Afghanistan project, funded by the European Union (EU), DACAAR rehabilitated the community’s hand pump, installed Emergency Baths and Latrines (EBLs), and provided hygiene kits and hygiene education.

These interventions have helped improve access to safe drinking water, strengthen sanitation, reduce health risks, and make daily life safer and easier for families, particularly women and children.
