Thousands of Afghan families returning from Pakistan face significant challenges as they rebuild their lives in Afghanistan, including limited access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation.

Through the Crisis Modifier response, DACAAR, with funding from the European Union (EU), provided essential emergency Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) assistance to returnees in the Eastern Region, with a focus on Torkham Omari Camp and Surkhakan Returnee Camp in Laghman Province.

The response included the provision of safe drinking water through water trucking, emergency latrines and bathing facilities, and the development of a production well to support a more sustainable water supply.

The assistance also extended to returnee families in surrounding host communities based on identified needs, helping improve access to safe water and sanitation while supporting health, dignity, and more secure living conditions.
