Keshem District, Badakhshan – 14 May 2026
A total of 3,116 families (21,812 individuals) in Pasha Dara, Anisabad, Haleemabad, Wahdatabad, and Khushka Dara villages of Keshem District, Badakhshan Province, now have improved access to safe and sustainable drinking water following the successful completion of a rural water supply project implemented between 2025 and 2026 under the Rural Development Program (RDP).
The project, titled “Improving Sustainable Access to Safe Water in Badakhshan (Keshem District),” was completed with support from DACAAR’s internal reserve funds, The Solidarity Committee (SC), and Water for All.

Key Project Achievements
The intervention has significantly strengthened the local water supply system through the following key outputs:
- 18 water reservoirs rehabilitated according to technical standards
- 5 water supply networks repaired and restored
- Approximately 122,560 meters of pipeline installed or replaced
- 2,628 water points (standposts) constructed
- 3,116 families provided with sustainable access to safe drinking water
The intervention has significantly improved access to safe water and contributed to reducing waterborne diseases in the target communities.
Community Impact
Prior to the intervention, residents, particularly women and children, often traveled long distances to collect water from unsafe sources. The rehabilitated and expanded water system now provides reliable access to clean water closer to households, improving health, hygiene, and overall living conditions.
Wali Mohammad, a community member from Pasha Dara village, shared his experience:
“Previously, we spent hours fetching water from distant and unsafe sources. Now, with clean water available near our homes, our lives have become much easier” He added, “Now we feel healthier and more comfortable.”
Conclusion
The project marks an important step towards strengthening water security and improving living conditions in remoter communities of Badakhshan Province.
