DACAAR is pleased to welcome Mr. Peder Thorning as the new Country Director, effective from 01 August 2025. Mr. Thorning (53) – a citizen of Denmark - holds an MA in Social Science, History and International Relations and has 25 years of experience from international development. He has served on the Governing Board of DACAAR for the past eight years, of which seven as Chairperson. The organisation is therefore not entirely new to him. In a brief statement, the new Director says: “DACAAR is a unique organization with an outstanding track record. I am full of respect for our achievements, but also overwhelmed by the massive need for help around the country. Creating a framework that can deliver this in a smooth way with as few delays as possible will be one of my most important tasks. For this to happen, we need flexibility - among our international partners as well as the relevant authorities in Afghanistan. I look forward to the cooperation and my new life in this beautiful country”.

Under Mr. Thorning’s leadership, DACAAR is confident his vision and dedication will propel DACAAR to new heights in addressing the critical needs of the communities it serves.
