IsDB and DACAAR to provide safe drinking water to underserved communities in Afghanistan.
On May 12, 2023 DACAAR and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) entered into a joint project worth USD 1,080,000, with equal co-funding, to ensure sustainable access to safe drinking water for underserved communities in four provinces of Afghanistan. Thanks to the generous contribution by KSrelief to the Afghan Humanitarian Trust Fund (AHTF), IsDB signed the agreement with DACAAR in the presence of OIC secretary general and esteemed representatives of SFD and KSrelief during the IsDB annual meeting held in Jeddah between 10 – 13 May.
The proposed project aims to contribute to ensuring sustainable access to and us of safe drinking water and improved and sustainable hygiene behavior change in underserved communities in Bagrami district (Kabul province), Khogyani district (Nangarhar province), Almar district (Faryab province), and Dasht-e-Archi district (Kunduz province). Upon completion the project will ensure durable access to and sustainable use of safe drinking water among 13,300 targeted men, women, boys, and girls through construction of 4 pip scheme networks delivering 40 liters per person per day of safe water through 1003 household connections for 1,900 rural families for drinking., cooking, and personal hygiene. Furthermore, the project will deliver hygiene education and kits to complement the sue of safe drinking water for sustainable improvement in the health of benefiting communities.
The project aims to achieve the following objectives/outcomes:
. Vulnerable households in underserved communities will have access to and use safe drinking water on a sustainable basis, with water points being operated and maintained by communities
. Vulnerable households in underserved comminutes will have improved hygiene behavior and practices.
