International Women’s Day at DACAAR

On March 8th, 2020 DACAAR celebrated the International Women’s Day in all six regional offices in Afghanistan.

As part of International Women's Day, DACAAR’s women beneficiaries participated in the “International Women’s Week & Job and Education Fair” in the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul for four days. Three women representing 40 business trainees from the NOVO Foundation project showcased and sold their embroidery and tailoring products. They introduced their new designs and received positive feedback from the public. Basmina Azimy one of the representatives who was marketing these products for the first time, said: "This was a very effective event for us. After I finished school I didn't know what to do, but after graduating from DACAAR’s vocational skills training and now participating in the business training, I know embroidery and tailoring skills, and also how to sell my products.”

After being asked what she learned from the training, she responded: "I learned how to price my products. We estimated the time it took to produce the clothes and the cost of the raw materials and calculated a price." Ms. Azimy added.

DACAAR encourages future women entrepreneurs from hard to reach areas to take part in national exhibitions and find markets for their products. “Participating in such fairs like this one, is a good practice for the women to apply their newly learned marketing skills”, said Malalai Azimee, DACAAR Women Empowerment Manager.

Every year DACAAR facilitates the participation of women from different programs in this national exhibition as part of International Women’s Day.
