Position Description:
The Animal Husbandry Officer will enhance animal husbandry practices in targeted project areas through community engagement, supervision, and technical support. This role involves collaboration with female extension workers, promoting sustainable practices, and educating local farmers

 

Responsibilities:
  • Participate in village organization meetings to discuss and implement animal husbandry initiatives in collaboration with relevant regional projects.
  • Supervise and provide technical assistance to female extension workers, ensuring adherence to DACAAR guidelines. Conduct regular visits to monitor all animal husbandry activities and on-farm trials.
  • Assign female extension workers to specific tasks and develop schedules for extension services and Inform the Field Officer of any technical issues, such as pest and disease outbreaks.
  • Encourage and oversee contracted women to ensure compliance with DACAAR partnership terms and provide necessary technical advice.
  • Communicate with the Field Officer regarding the procurement of agreed inputs and equipment for contracted women.
  • Foster women's participation and involvement in all animal husbandry activities to promote sustainability.
  • Engage with the community to discuss new varieties and techniques in animal husbandry.
  • Collect and compile data on on-farm trials and training sessions conducted for women in village organizations, submitting this data to the field project office in charge at the end of each month. 
  • Implement and supervise feed banks, manage feed distribution processes, and oversee nutritional guidelines.
  • Work alongside veterinarians to enhance veterinary field units (VFU) and provide technical support for disease prevention and treatment.
  • Monitor and assist in artificial insemination and vaccination processes, ensuring best practices are followed.
  • Train farm staff on animal husbandry practices, including hygiene, proper feeding, beekeeping, and cow stable improvements.
  • Organize beekeeping farms and supervise the daily activities of farm workers to ensure optimal productivity.
  • Support and Implement best practices for dairy processing and production.
  • Stay updated on advancements in animal husbandry practices and integrate new knowledge into community training.
  • Facilitate and educate farmers and the community on effective animal care and feed management strategies.
  • Apply the Farmer Field School (FFS) approach and ensure compliance with relevant rules and regulations during project implementation.
  • Compile and submit monthly progress reports to the field office, detailing activities and outcomes.
  • The Animal Husbandry Officer must strictly follow the organization's existing security policies, procedures, and daily instructions of the safety personnel.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the relevant supervisor

 

Education/ Qualification and Employment Benefits                                                 

 

Education:Bachelor Degree in Animal Husbandry is required. But, master degree is perforable. 

 

Experience: At least three (3) years of relevant experience is required.  

Other qualifications’ an advantage: 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective community engagement and report writing.

Ability in team working, Good Interpersonal Skills, Good Organizational Skills 

Languages:Oral and written fluency in (English, Dari, Pashto)
